Good Morning Beautiful People!
This morning I woke up with the uber-early birds to do some much needed laundry. A few items I line dry, because I don’t want them to shrink, I care. While hanging my clothes onto my commercial clothing rod (yes, I own one), I noticed a pattern (aside from unconsciously putting them in color order). Because I am not ashamed of showing my dirty (or rather, clean) laundry, I decided to snap a picture. Here is a list of what you see…

Chambray Shirt - Uniqlo
Silk Button Down - Joe Fresh
Blazer - H&M
Shift Dress - H&M
Cardigan - H&M
Pullover Raglan Sweater - Forever 21
Ruffle Racerback Top - Forever 21 (I’ve owned this top for 4 years)

Boyfriend Button Down - Uniqlo
2 Slim Cut Button Downs - Uniqlo
Slim Fit Pants - J.Crew
Striped Henley - H&M
When I took a step back and saw what was hanging, I wear a hell of a lot of basics. That’s not to say my outfits (as featured on here) do not have some flare, i.e. the colors I put together or the jewelry I wear. Nevertheless, the fundamentals of my style remain the same. With these few items that I’ve acquired through the years, I’ve created a framework for my style: mixing & matching basics with a personal touch (jewelry or color).
So what is the point exactly of this post? Ladies, you must first create the framework of your style, before adding “effects”. Whatever that may be for you. For me it’s jewelry and the pop of color in my outfit. For you, it could be the shoes or silhouettes you choose to wear. Every woman, should at least own most, if not all of the list above. A blazer can be worn in the boardroom or to the happy hour spot. A woman could never have enough crisp, white button downs. And what woman wouldn’t want a pair of slim-fit pants?
Here are a few things to add to your “framework”
Calf-Hair Pumps Like it or not, these will become a classic item. I found a great pair at Nine West.
2 Turtlenecks, Black & Grey
L/S & S/S Knit White Tees
Grey Slim Fit Pants
1 Pair of Skinny Denim
1 Pair of Flared Leg Denim
This list may seem daunting, but if you noticed, I purchased most of my basics from popular specialty retailers. It’s all about how you take care of them…

Ladies Attention Attention! There is hope after Labor Day. I think current fashion trends have proven that traditional rules can be broken.
For instance, you can definitely wear white after Labor Day. Let’s take it a step further, you can wear white pants after Labor Day. Hell, all year round!
Just like summer dresses, you can transition your favorite pair of white denim into the cold winter months. It just takes a bit of maneuvering.
When you’re bored with your basic blue denim, you can try black or, white denim. J.Crew offers a great pair of white matchstick denim jeans for $98. You can transition those into the Fall/Winter months, with a great pair of oxfords or even a cute calf hair heel.
Another option is to offset bright whites, with a neutral color, such as grey. Try a grey turtleneck for a start. Joe Fresh offers an array of knit turtlenecks in basic & gemstone colors for $16 (34th and 7th). Another great idea, a jewel-tone/pastel silk button down. The colors Emerald & French Tip Pink comes to mind. And let’s not forget, you can never go wrong with a chambray shirt for a casual day out of shopping and tea (all can be found at Joe Fresh).

Finish off the look with a staple coat, ie a peacoat with cute details. These two coats come to mind; with gold buttons, it reads classic & modern.

Break the Rules, Set the Trends!
